Throwback Friday: Various VFX Used in the Titanic

With such advance VFX used in most of the movies today, why not move away from all these technology and look back and how simple VFX was back in the days of Titanic?

To me, i still feel that Titanic is one of the most romantic and dramatic movies of all time.. I don't even think other love movies come close to this. But aside from the whole mushy story and whatnot, i was curious the other day and decided to search up some of the VFX breakdowns of how they made the compositing and different layers for each scene.

For let's say, the Ice-Berg, i know that we've probably already seen this sometime ago but i still find it amazing how they do it :)

Back in those days, they couldn't really afford to have everything CGI'd so here's how they build kinda like a completed set for  the Titanic. I bet it took them months to create it. Insane!

Now i find this video really interesting. In the movie they only showed us how the titanic sank. But they didn't really specify how it went down all the way to the bottom and how it impacts the sea bed and all that. Just look at that boom!

Overall even though the Visual Effects weren't great at that time, James Cameron still managed to cover all of that up with the amazing story line and how he created the journey of Rose and Jack. It's just so amazing how with such little visual effects at that time, they were still able to pull off very intensive scenes that captivates you even up til now. I'm still very impressed :)

Stop Motion Wonder - Coldplay's Strawberry Swing

You have probably already seen this music video but if i had to pay to watch it again and again, i would. The wonders of stop motion! Their stop motion is just out of this world considering the fact that everything was just drawn by chalk taken over and over again. This is insane.

Great music too, awesome video, Coldplay <3

VFX Technical Breakdowns

So the other day after re-watching the 'Clash of the Titan's trailer, i got really interested in the Visual Effects this time as compared to last time. I found this VFX breakdown really interesting. Yes, i have yet to watch the movie. :)

After having a clearer picture of how Visual Effects works, i now kinda understand what they're sort of doing, compositing, layering, texturing, editing and whatnot. I used to stare at these showreels or breakdowns having no idea how they do it or what they're doing and what?.. Now i'm just searching through breakdowns after breakdowns of my favourite movies. Oh, plus, the music they use for the breakdowns never fail to send shivers down my spine. Here's an X-Men one :)

The texturing of the skin of the leg was just mind blowing, at first sight, i thought it was a real fake leg that they used.. Cliche but yeah..

Here's a harry potter one..

Interesting Web Series: The Most Popular Girls in School

Have you ever stumbled upon a cartoon/animation/claymation web series that is done so easily but takes you just 1 second to get hooked on to and just beat the laughing gas out of you? Well, i stumbled upon this web series called The Most Popular Girls in School.
Here's just an episode of the whole thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYyRbXFdu9k&list=PL1B5D75CAD152D256&index=6

(Beware to whoever's reading this: This whole web series is just filled with vulgarities and bitchiness)

I kinda wanted to blog about this not because it's hilarious or anything, i mean beside the fact that, but i wanted to show you how it's just made by simple stop motion, cheap background and just plain nonsensical dialogue:
(Skip to 9:46, that's where how they filmed it in stop motion, the rest of the video's just mainly dialogue and more dialogue)

Part 1 of the making of: (I had to put 2 up first because 1 had more stop motion making in it)

They also showed quite a couple of techniques on how they made the so called "special effects" such as fake blood and all that which can be considered as physical effect i suppose?

But i definitely had a lot of fun watching this xD

Hansel and Gretal: Witch Hunters

It's interesting how Hollywood's taking our favourite childhood fairytales and turning them into some badass kick ass movie with guns and whatnot. I really like the idea how they're gonna release Jack and the Bean Stalk and many other fairytale remakes to come. But it's kind of sad that Hollywood is kinda running out of ideas in my opinion. Meh, but we'll just see. Yes, i would definitely love to see a continuation or a remake of Beauty and the Beast or even Pinnochio :3

Here's some really interesting behind the scenes B-Roll that i found on YouTube:

Just a side comment, i bet it must feel really awkward having to only do one punch or one kick and then it's like take 2 or next scene. Maybe it's just me but i felt that the director and his crew did a really good job on it :)

I have to say, the visual effects for this movie were really well done, even though i couldn't find a clip of that, but i could already tell it from the movie itself. Stunning visuals and everything was really well planned EXCEPT for the very cheesy story line. Yes, if the movie had to be heavily critic'd on, i guess that the storyline would come up on top. The story doesn't really appeal to me because for the fact that i couldn't really tell what was going on at times and basically, it's one of those stories that make the audiences go "Oh! I know what's coming next!". So in other words it's predictable and whatnot. Yes, there are other things that can be critic'd on, well not everything's perfect as it seems right? :)

I would give the overall movie rating a 7.5/10. Great movie to watch with your friends, love ones or whatnot but definitely not with your kids haha! -If you know what i mean-
I gave the extra 0.5 to it because i was swooning over Jeremy Renner 8D Gemma Arterton's hot too.. Okay let's not go there hehe!

Caroline - A Claymation

http://youtu.be/XUqMfKbV4ho

Here's a video about how they made the models and how they moved it. Crazy. Just. Crazy.

The way they make every model and having 250 people working on them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYLajMqw8bI

I love how the story, overall, brings such a creepy yet beautiful feel. I feel as though it's one of those movies that gets you amazed, but then again, makes you feel slightly uncomfortable. I guess it's just how amazing the models are made and how weird they're designed to be. Hahas.

This movie really caught my attention because the details of the models and the clays are just so well done and the very well written story line.

It also took 2 years and 18 months to make the whole thing including the pre-production and whatnot. Say whuuutt..
